The importance of eating good food was ingrained to Elaine, probably at the age when she switched from milk to solids. Born and raised in Kuching, Malaysia until the age of 16, Elaine comes from a family who believes that a healthy child must be fed with nutritious and wholesome food to ensure the child studies and thinks well. Her family is the reason Elaine believes that fish is brain food until today *wink*
Elaine graduated from a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology in 2003 from Curtin University, Western Australia. It was her yesteryears in Perth that her love affair with food blossomed. She loves spending her spare time browsing through supermarket aisles, choosing the right ingredients for her next cook up in the kitchen. Gone are the days when her bin was stacked with nothing more but plastic takeaway containers.
“I remembered a time when I was cooking fried rice for the very first time and because rice was so dry, I started adding water. Soon enough, instead of making fried rice I was making porridge!”
Elaine now resides in Kuala Lumpur and her love affair with food has definitely not diminished. Since being back, she realised that there are so many people of her generation who have not stepped foot into a kitchen before and resort to hawker stalls for a quick fix. She finds that with abundance of fresh produce in Malaysia, Malaysians are definitely neglecting the fact (or more so lazy) that it is THAT simple to whip up a quick, healthy meal.
